Dealing with challenging children in a timely manner

Aisha Nabunya, co-director of ITVYP delivered a talk to parents at the Our Lady Help of Christian Church, Kentish Town on 27th January 2025, about parental care in relation to dealing with children who are challenging, despite the parent’s best efforts to bring up the child with a religious background.
She highlighted the question that arises among parents as to what happens to the child from the moment they are born, through the various development stages and what gives rise to the child not turning out as expected?
Aisha, noted that research has shown that children at times lack guidance or boundaries as no parent receives a manual when the child is born. Do parents give sufficient time to their children?
Parent’s were informed that the ITVYP organisation helps parents struggling with their children before they come into contact with social services, and helps them seek resolution to issues that they face. It also helps young parents who are struggling with children that are challenging. The service is free and parents who need help can contact the organisation for help.
Aisha, stated that topics for discussion include:
- Being a parent
- Living with teenagers
Even though parenting styles differ and many may have grown up under an authoritative parenting style, parents were encouraged to also embrace being closer to their children to deal with modern challenges, so that when the children have life challenges and issues such as bullying at school, they are able to feel at ease to approach the parent about this.
A big thank you to Mrs Ruth Kitayimbwa (officer in charge for children’s’ welfare) who gave us the opportunity to address the congregation.
